KPV is a tripeptide composed of the amino acids lysine, proline and valine. Its sequence corresponds to the three amino acids at the C-terminal end of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a larger peptide involved in cellular signalling. KPV is studied as a distinct peptide fragment rather than as the complete alpha-MSH molecule.
Experimental research has investigated KPV uptake through the peptide transporter PepT1 in intestinal epithelial and immune cell models. Studies have examined its effects on NF-kappaB and MAP kinase signalling and cytokine secretion, alongside its role in experimental models of intestinal inflammation. This work explores peptide transport and inflammatory signalling in laboratory systems.
