GHK-Cu is a copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, commonly abbreviated GHK. The peptide consists of the amino acids glycine, histidine and lysine and has an affinity for copper ions. Copper binding distinguishes GHK-Cu from the unbound GHK peptide.
Research into GHK-Cu has examined fibroblast activity, collagen and glycosaminoglycan production, and extracellular-matrix turnover in cell-culture and experimental tissue-repair models. These studies investigate how the copper–peptide complex relates to connective-tissue biology and tissue remodelling.
