About NAD+
NAD+ is the oxidised form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme found in living cells. It participates in oxidation–reduction reactions by accepting electrons to form NADH. The NAD+/NADH pair is central to biochemical research into cellular metabolism and electron transfer. NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme rather than a peptide.
NAD+ also serves as a substrate for enzymes involved in cellular regulation. Primary biochemical and structural studies have examined NAD+-dependent sirtuin enzymes, including how NAD+ is consumed during protein deacetylation. Research therefore considers both its role in metabolic reactions and its participation in enzyme-mediated signalling and protein regulation.
